A morning routine is important because it sets the tone for your whole day. When your morning starts off right and you take care of yourself first, you are better able to manage any stressors throughout your day. You are also better able to support the important people in your life, when you feel more balanced and at peace.
Here are 5 activities you can start today to develop your own Morning Self Care Ritual, while working toward a more positive & peaceful day!
1. Don’t hit snooze:
Set an alarm for a few minutes earlier to give yourself time to complete your Rituals. You may also choose to set up some things the night before to save time, such as taking out your gym and work clothes or starting your overnight oats. Try putting your phone out of reach so it’s not as easy to hit snooze!
2. Positive Affirmations :
Positive statements that describe how you want to be, which you repeat to yourself until it becomes true ( similar to a self fulfilling prophecy or a goal you visualize until it is achieved). Examples: “ I am confident”, “ I am Enough!”, “ Today I will not stress over what I cannot control”, “ I am worthy of love”.
3. Move your Body:
This can include anything from taking a stroll outdoors, working out at agym to doing some stretches or yoga poses in your room for 15 minutes. Start small, set realistic goals and get creative with your moves, maybe dancing in the mirror like no ones watching is a better fit for you ( I know this is where half of my time goes in the morning).
4. Meditate:
Even if you start with 5 minutes, meditation can help reduce stress and restore peace and balance throughout your day. Start with finding a comfortable position. Notice and relax each muscle of your body from your heat to your toes. Just Breathe, tune into your breathe and feel the natural flow. Try to be kind to the wandering mind, allow thoughts to float by you as clouds and accept them as they pass through, gently re-direct your attention back to your breathe. Check in with how you feel before checking out. I also love to add sleep sounds or relaxation music from YouTube to my meditation practice.
5. Journal:
You can use this time to write and reflect. Here are some journal suggestions: What are 3 things you are grateful for? What is 3 things you want to be different ? What are 3 goals you want to achieve ? 3 favourite quotes & why ( look them up on Pinterest or Google search).
